About Oscar Wright

Hey, wasup !…I am an American tango teacher who lives in Rome…I am originally from Austin, Texas where for many years I was a businessman and entrepreneur.

In 1997 I did a crazy thing; I followed my dream and moved to Florence, Italy which had been my dream. My friends told me it was a crazy thing to do as I had never been in Italy, did not know anyone and did not speak the language….well this opened the door to incredible adventures..it has been a fantastic life! ….if you can believe this, “it has been bigger than my imagination”

I now live in Rome where I teach tango using Zen concepts and Jungian psychology…it is my passion and I try to do it with an “American” approach…with professionalism… I love italy – I mean, I really love it!,  because of the history, the art, the food, the wine, the coffee, the fashion, the comunication between people… I have a degree in Philosophy and have owned a number of small businesses and have been a business consultant. I once had a radio show and a television show. I am very curious about the world and read alot especially on the internet. I love the internet; I believe that it is the greatest invention in human history.

I am a video producer as well and a fanatic about physical fitness. I have practised yoga for 40 years. I think that the internet is the greatest human invention of all time. I have two grown sons in Austin, Aaron and Alexis and my little beautiful daughter Rebecca in Milano. The most incredibile thing in my life is my soon to be wife Maria Teresa Ruocco…she is sensitive, intelligent, beautiful and the inspiration of my life. We both practise Zen. We both love talking to people..so come visit!!!!!

  1. Oscar,

I know that we’ve exchanged emails. Like you, I left the USA and started a new life in BsAs. I had to follow my heart. Yoga and meditation complement my dancing.

Thanks for supplying a new source for tango dancers who want to learn more about the music they love.

  2. Hi there! I’m Michelle Ann Rio, Resident Dance Journalist of DancePinoy.com. You commented on my article entitled “A Night of Argentine Tango and More..” and told us to advertise your link.

Just a brief background on what DancePinoy.com is, it is the only online community for dancers in the Philippines. We feature all kinds of genres from hiphop to ballroom. We cover events and write articles about it.

We would be glad to have the opportunity to cover an event in your country and meet you personally if ever so please do inform us.

By the way, your link will be out on our website this coming Sunday.

As someone who has a dream, but not the guts to go through with it, I have to live my life through others who have. I enjoy reading your blog and the daily information you give.
Thanks for giving me more insight into the history of Tango.
